Today, December 21st 2018, has a LOT of magical power. First up it's the winter solstice (Happy Yule!) and the longest night of the year. This year we're also lucky enough to enjoy a full moon on the longest night of the year (at least in the Northern Hemisphere)! It's also the last full moon of 2018. Let's grab all that magic and gift ourselves a self-love ritual! Traditionally Yule is celebrated as the returning of the sun! Back when we couldn't turn lights on with a flick of a switch, THIS was a big deal. While it may take some time to actually see the "days getting longer", so to speak, we can celebrate this light and the light within.
During the holidays it gets a little hectic and naturally we start to put people and tasks before our own sanity. If you follow me on instagram, you've probably seen a few of my recent posts reminding us to take a moment to check-in, connect with your breathing and gifting yourself some self-care time. It's SUPER important right now, especially if you feel like you don't have time for it. So here's the thing... The full moon on Yule is a reminder to check in with that internal light. Tarot used to be a thing that we only saw at renaissance faires or your witchy cousin did at teenage sleep-overs. As so called "woo-woo" practices become more accepted witches and pagans are stepping out of the so called "broom closet" and sharing their secrets. So I guess here's mine... Yes, I practice the tarot. Yes, I burn sage and place candles all over my house. I also meditate, practice yoga and read a lot about nature based religions and the elements. This is a path I have followed for over 15 years and I can only assume I'm going to dive deeper and deeper because it resonates so much with me. What does this mean for you?! More DIY's. More rituals ("woo-woo" or not, that is up to you). More wheel of year and moon cycle inspired content. More daily magic and... Of course a quick tarot guide for spiritual guidance. What is tarot? (a no B.S. explanation)
Tarot decks are cards that are similar to traditional playing cards (you can also intuitively read those like tarot, without the major arcana). The tarot deck consists of both major and minor arcana. The minor arcana include 4 suits (usually wands, swords, pentacles, and cups) which relate to each of the 4 elements (fire, air, earth, and water respectively). The minor arcana are similar to a traditional deck of cards including a king, queen, page (jack), and numerals. However, the major arcana tell a story based on the Fool's journey toward enlightenment. Pulling a major arcana is like getting a power up in a video game. These cards seem to pack a little extra punch about your current situation/question As part of our 30 day Fall Into Wellness Challenge (Join us on Instagram or Facebook!) every Friday of our challenge is a prompt for some self love! Fridays are ruled by the planet Venus, which if you follow astrology has to do with love, passion and relationships. Remembering that our relationship with ourself is so important, I thought a little Friday reminder each week of our challenge was a requirement. We spend a lot of time giving to others, but may forget to schedule some time for ourselves. Especially as the kids are heading back to school and summer vacations are winding down, be sure to gift yourself some self love time. My favorite self-love/self-care ritual is spending some time detoxing in my bathtub. ha ha Anyone else? So for a little inspiration, I thought I would share one of my favorite autumn inspired bath recipes. I'm a big fan of epsom salts and essential oils. Salt is said to help release negativity in the body and essential oils are not only good for providing some moisture to our skin, but depending on which oil contain other healing properties.
Tomorrow is my birthday, and I've been really feeling that Mercury retrograde this week (along with the eclipses and other planets in retrograde--AHHH!). So for my birthday I'm looking for some self care and self love check back in with myself and remind myself of my own magic. Below is a little Self Love Ritual I started last year and plan to continue. Of course you don't have to wait for your birthday, give it a try whenever you need some self-care! Every year on my birthday I purchase myself a bouquet of roses, usually from Aldi's because they are cheap--amirite?--but still beautiful. These roses remind me of beauty, love and passion; all those things we may forget about in the thick of things.
In case you have forgotten, YOU are the Magic. You hold all the keys that you need to open a new door, make a habit change or completely change your entire life. You hold all this magic and everything you need right now, in this moment. In a world where sharing and witnessing other people's success is just a click away on our personal devices, we may get caught up in comparisons and envy. We may judge our path, our experiences and dreams.
Why haven't I done X yet and maybe this isn't what I'm meant to do?! Here's your sign... Despite the recent ice and snow, are you starting to feel that Spring Fever? It might be intensified this week due to the New Moon that was on Sunday the 15th. Good news; Mercury is finally direct too! I find that during those first few days of the new moon, I reaaaally feel that New Beginnings vibe! I start new projects. I'm more willing to try new things. I may be so bold to say I feel more creative during this time. Here in upstate New York, we're just starting to see the day staying brighter longer. Although, we've had some ice this past weekend and strong winds again, but most of the snow is gone! Most notable, the Geese are back from their southern migration.
All these things and more are signifying Spring to me in a BIG way. Our first New Moon this season is giving me ALL the feels. Time to check back in with my goals, my needs and recommit. |
