We all have those days every once in a while. Can't find the shirt you want, no coffee in the house, car won't start, etc. etc. Those days where we can either wallow in our self misery because it's a "bad day"... OR we can choose to change our focus to all of the positive things that have happened or are happening!
For example, we may not have had any coffee in the house this morning, but my husband and I still went for a 1.5 mile walk and saw approximately 2502803024081 squirrels running around enjoying the early morning. (Number might be exaggerated.) Had I given up after not finding the right shirt and not having my coffee I wouldn't have enjoyed those 30 minutes walking with my husband. I'm noticing more and more that daily routines can either set us up for success or failure. If we can get a few wins early in the day it sets us up for success. So in the spirit of success, why not set yourself up to win? Here are a few ideas that I have incorporated:
I'm also trying to get into the habit of pulling a tarot card every morning to get an idea of what my day will be like. I'm trying to get to know the cards better and found this fun way to learn a card a day! What positive morning habits do you have? - Jenn Rose There was a new moon last Saturday, the 24th, just a few days after the Summer Solstice. Did you feel the magic?!? I was feeling the magic. I spent my free time with my tarot cards and scrying into the unknown future. Then on Saturday I took the plunge. I dyed my hair. ;) Before I go on, I LOVE IT! lol It makes me feel mysterious and witchy--something I've been missing in my mundane 9-5 life. P.S. It looks gorgeous with my belly dance costumes!
Now I didn't make a big deal about it when I went into work on Monday, because I wanted to see what people would say. I've always been dark blonde and this was a dramatic transformation. I've had a lot of ladies tell me they like it, but also a lot of people who say "oh, you dyed your hair" and they change the subject. I've even had a few guys tell me they miss the blonde hair. My point in all this is... Changing my hair on the New Moon made me feel like I was making a change in myself. A commitment to my authentic, real Jenn Rose self. So what do I care if someone other than I, does not like my new look?! I feel empowered and I love my choice. We spend a lot of time seeking other people's approval of our looks, our behaviors, and so on and so on. We can't make everyone happy. It's impossible. Let's make a pact to stop seeking approval of others and seek approval in ourselves. If doing something makes you happy, do it. Rock it. Burgundy hair and all, - Jenn Rose ![]() I have been trying to figure out my personal style. Yes, I'm finding my inner fashionista! You may have seen my Stitch Fix review and had an idea that something like this was happening. ;) Well, yes I am trying to show the world what the most authentic Jenn Rose would wear on a day to day basis. That means some interesting outfits to my business casual day job and a ton of bathroom mirror selfies! So here's what's up! I am quickly noticing that ALLLL of my fashion inspirations wear whatever they want! They don't follow the rules. Check out Gala Darling--loving those diamond cat ears! What does that mean? It's really not about the clothes. It's more about how the clothes make you feel. Do you feel 100% confident, sexy and crazy cool in the outfit you are wearing? If you're not wearing something that makes you feel amazing, then you've already set your self up for failure. So here's my suggestion:
1. Put on your favorite outfit. 2. Take a bathroom mirror selfie of you looking fly. 3. Notice how you feel in this outfit and how much CONFIDENCE you have right now. 4. Repeat. All the time. Get rid of anything that makes you feel less or that you're not good enough, thin enough, curvy enough, whatever enough. You deserve to feel full of confidence because you are not just enough, you are amazing. Now go forth, Look & Feel Amazing! - Jenn Rose There is this magical place where tribal fusion belly dancers and drummers meet by a lake for smores--even gluten free & vegan!--to dance with poi, fire or just to the beat of a drum.
I was lucky enough to spend an entire weekend at Super Fun Dance Camp near Cold Spring, NY this past weekend. This was the second year of SFDC, but is a bit behind it's cousin NEATS (North East American Tribal Style) Camp which has been going on for four years now. MiMi of Manhattan Tribal and Carmine are our camp counselors with Lake Surprise Camp as the destination to be at. Oh my, isn't it beautiful. Camp began on Friday afternoon with a very mindful focused class by Johanna Xenobia, who teaches both yoga and belly dance. She's such an inspiration for me! We broke down movements to their very core to really pay attention to the weight shifting in the feet and other tiny details that we may not notice while trying to hit the beat during an improvisational drum solo. Camp continued with an intense combinations class from the one and only Jill Parker! It's always a pleasure seeing Jill. <3 I regret not getting any pictures with her by the lake this year! After classes we had dinner, camp style, with long tables to share with your fellow campers/class mates. It's always so exciting seeing those dancers you don't often see in your day to day basis. Dinner was followed up by a bon fire by the lake and we were delighted to a fire dance show performed by Johanna, one of her students, and Belladonna. The next morning we were back in class! My husband Eric and I made it to eight AM yoga with Johanna before splitting after breakfast to attend separate sessions. Eric was taking a few drumming classes from Casey Bond, Carmine and Brad Mack. I attended an Improv Sword Stylization class with, you guessed it, Belladonna <3 and a Shimmy Therapy class with Jill Parker. I had woken up waaaaay to early that day so after two super classes I was wiped. Eric and I took it easy by the lake--in the sun!-- for the afternoon. #listentoyourbody! And how could we not enjoy such nice day with some sun and relaxation. Speaking of waking up wayyyy to early, I took the time to go for a mini hike and thus the first picture in this post was created. Our camp was on the opposite of the lake, where the sun is coming up over the trees at approximately 5:30 AM. It was nice to get out and enjoy the space before the busy-ness of the day. I also got to see some animals that wouldn't normally be out and about with everyone walking around. Later that evening was the big Teacher showcase. We were treated to intimate performances by Jill Parker, The Lunachix, Belladonna, Johanna Xenobia, Brenna Crowley, MiMi Fontana and more. It was gorgeous. I was living in the moment so much, I completely forgot to take any pics! After the show, it was time for the hafla!! Hafla means party and boy, were there some crazy shenanigans! Check out the super secret fancy onesie party we had going on! All the onesie dancers stormed the party and took over the dance floor with some impromptu ATS! There is even video evidence on Facebook. LOL Sunday was the final day of camp and we concluded with a lovely Poi for beginners class with Belladonna, made any final purchases from the vendors and said way to many good byes. By Monday morning we are already missing camp and all of our friends! Here's to already looking forward to next year! <3 - Shakin' in Cat Pajama's, Jenn Rose <3 |
