With Thanksgiving behind us and the holidays just around the corner we're looking at the "Most Wonderful Time of the Year" and also the busiest. While running to holiday parties, visiting family, shopping, baking and everything else added to your regular to-do list your self-care may fall to the way side.
So how can we savor all the flavors of the season AND take care of ourselves? Let's jump right into some SIMPLE Self Care ideas for your holidays. Autumn is finally here! We're feeling the autumn chill and the leaves are starting to turn up here in central NY. We're also nearing the end of our 30 day Fall Into Wellness Challenge on Instagram and Facebook! All of which got me thinking about reflection; one of our one of the Fall into Wellness journal prompts. With October being the start of the last quarter of the year it's a BIG prompt for reflection. As the wheel of the year turns toward the end of year we start to prep for the holidays and bam! a new year is upon on. Before we jump in, let's dive deep into reflection as the days get shorter and the nights longer. First up, let's start by taking note of your current situation.
Check in with your routines, your habits and rituals. Take some time to decide what is really working and what isn't. Carrying around that 20 ounce water bottle isn't helping, if you don't refill it, amirite?! As part of our 30 day Fall Into Wellness Challenge (Join us on Instagram or Facebook!) every Friday of our challenge is a prompt for some self love! Fridays are ruled by the planet Venus, which if you follow astrology has to do with love, passion and relationships. Remembering that our relationship with ourself is so important, I thought a little Friday reminder each week of our challenge was a requirement. We spend a lot of time giving to others, but may forget to schedule some time for ourselves. Especially as the kids are heading back to school and summer vacations are winding down, be sure to gift yourself some self love time. My favorite self-love/self-care ritual is spending some time detoxing in my bathtub. ha ha Anyone else? So for a little inspiration, I thought I would share one of my favorite autumn inspired bath recipes. I'm a big fan of epsom salts and essential oils. Salt is said to help release negativity in the body and essential oils are not only good for providing some moisture to our skin, but depending on which oil contain other healing properties.
Gang, I'm so excited!! Next week, I'm kicking off my first ever online challenge; Fall Into Wellness. I felt like the summer was a little bit crazy-in all the best ways-but I may have over enjoyed if you get my drift. I decided that I want to recommit to my wellness goals after the new moon (September 9th) and it's always better to have some accountability when you're working towards lasting change.
As autumn draws near I'm excited for the slow moments the chill in the air brings. Summer time is very go go go in my household. Autumn brings a sense of slowness and preparation for the cold months ahead. Of course, this got me thinking how we can take that idea of slowness and really find ourselves present in that moment. I know I have referenced before that our society's norm is to embrace the "busy", but what if we relished in the slowness? What if that first sip of coffee or tea was slow and you really experienced the flavor before gulping it down and running out of the house? So let's start with your morning coffee...
1. Setup a Morning Ritual. I know that's soooo buzz wordy, but if we wake up with a plan we can be sure to have time to sit down and gently sip our coffee or tea. If your morning routine is panicked alarm, throw some clothes on, and run out the door then you are probably starting the day stressed. What if your morning routine went something like this: Mercury is still in retrograde until this Sunday, the 19th, and I've been encountering some communication issues as well as being asked to sign some sketchy contracts at the day job! Any one else feel the effects of our communication planet being a little wonky? (totally a technical term-lol) I'm always reminded during this time the importance of self-care. As someone who runs a business and works a full time job--while also trying to maintain a social life--I'm a pretty busy person. Mercury Retrograde also reminds me that I need time to step back and reflect. I'm also reminded that I need to schedule that time so I don't overbook myself and feel myself burn out. I'm assuming I'm not alone here? So let's talk self-care...
I know I preach on and on about the importance, but it is something I truly believe we need to spend more time thinking about. We are busy people in a time that promotes being busy as doing well. However if we are always "busy", when do we have time to check in and see if we are actually enjoying this thing called life? When do we have time to reflect on our choices and even our busy-ness? How do we know if we actually enjoy the "busy" if we do not schedule time to notice? |
