Hoping your Winter Solstice went well yesterday! For our last "Gifting" post in the series, I wanted to step back a little. The 2017 holidays are here and as you may have noticed in my last post I'm feeling all the feels. Gifting has gotten a little crazy. To the extent, that family members skip their Thanksgiving meals to go out shopping for "good deals" on material possessions. We always hear "It's the thought that counts"... Though, sometimes we get caught up in the hunt for the "perfect gift".
Deep down, we know the "perfect gift" is spending time with the people (and pets!) that you care about. Showing them that you care and slowing down just to enjoy the little things. A cup of coffee and some small talk (double points for deep conversations!). Instead of a gift card, take them to dinner. Share the experience. Say "Thank you" to the employee that empties your trash. Greet the garbage men with a travel mug full of coffee. Leave baked goods in the mailbox for the mail carrier. Call your parents/siblings/etc. just to say "Hi." Make small talk with the cashier. Say something nice to someone in the check-out line. Send a Thank you note/letter to someone who made your year. Write a love letter and mail it to your partner. Surprise someone at work with a coffee. Leave an inspirational note taped to a restroom mirror. Gifts come in all shapes and sizes. They don't have to break the budget. Sometimes the smallest gestures mean the most. Love, Jenn Rose (Photo by rawpixel.com on Unsplash) |
