Possibly the "buzz-i-est" of the buzz words going around the web right now. However, it really is needed more than ever! As we grow-up we learn to be nice to others and take care of our friends/pets/family/etc. While, yes I do believe these things are important; what about being nice and taking care of yourself? First off, You can say "No" to take care of yourself first. Don't go to that party if you are feeling run down from the week. Don't accept that invite to the baby shower/wedding/etc. that you don't want to go to. Do what is best for you!
Now that you're home, gift yourself with some gratitude! Take a moment to write down your best qualities (physical, mental, emotional/etc.). Build yourself up, instead of tearing yourself down. If that is too difficult, I've been there, start out by writing down any compliments you've received recently. Or maybe you did well on a project at work? Write it down. Feel like you accomplished something big? Write that down. Sometimes just a bit of journaling is all you need for a confidence boost. Bring on the hygge (Another buzz word!)!! Layer up with a cozy blanket. Read a good book. Make a cup of tea, coffee or cocoa. Rest. In our go-go culture, we are pushed to never stop, but the body needs a break here and there. Take a minute to breathe. Try some pranayama exercises or meditation. Try an app like Headspace or Calm so you can meditate any where/any time you have a few minutes. Do some restorative yoga. Have I mentioned how much I love the Down Dog app? There's a paid version, but the free version is soooo good. Set the timer and choose your style/level, let's go! Of course, there's always the ever popular hot bath. Make it a spa experience by adding in some bath salts, essential oils (Lavender, anyone?), or bubbles for fun. Pair it up with some soft music and floating candles! You deserve it. Make time for your hobbies. Create more (Draw, paint, knit, doodle!). Giving yourself the time to reconnect to those things is huge! Of course, once you look at the final product, you'll also feel accomplished! Add that to your journal entry of accomplishments too! I truly believe that if we don't take a breathe and rest, our bodies immune system can't handle the stress and we become more susceptible to sickness. What does your self-care routine look like? I'd love to hear if you try any of these ideas as well. <3 - Jenn Rose |
