Yesterday I had the pleasure to teach breathing techniques and gentle stretches to a group of educational administrators. Some refused to play along when I asked them to close their eyes, scrunch up their faces and then raise their eye brows and open their mouths wide because they didn't want to look "weird" in front of their colleagues. Others participated whole heartedly with big smiles. This got me thinking, how many experiences we give up on because we don't want to stand out and look weird. How many new ideas did we pass up? How many chances to chase our dreams did we let slip by?! Then this morning I found the following proverb in a recent Mind Body Green article about meditation. Can we stand fully in our own power and be rooted to ourselves that the wind doesn't scare us? The wind in this situation being the unknown, the weird, the backlash of standing out. Are we confident enough in our own being that we can be different?
Today, we live in a world where we post pictures of our dinner on the internet for strangers to "like" and give positive feedback. What if we gave ourselves our own feed back? The 'ole pat on the back? Let's choose to be our own cheerleaders, counselors and coaches. Stand fully in your own power and then provide feedback. Don't forget to amp up the positives! Choosing to be yourself keeps those roots growing, so we can continue to live with the wind. Love & Courage, - Jenn Rose |
