The further I walk down this path of self love I am falling in love with ALL of the things my body can do, the way it is right now. Perhaps it's something I've picked up from my yoga or dance practice. Maybe it's something I've learned to be grateful for through gratitude exercises. Either way, I certainly have felt a shift in my body image and self love by viewing it this way...
In my yoga classes we use props... A LOT. I love using yoga blocks with my students so they can focus on the journey to the floor, rather than "I need to get my head on the floor RIGHT NOW"/etc. It's about meeting yourself where you are RIGHT NOW, because right now you are where you need to be. Being where you are at today is not just okay-it's perfect.
Sure, we strive to get to that "perfect" pose. What if, instead we focused on where we are at right now. What if we celebrated the fact we can hold plank for five breathes or you can touch your front shin in Triangle? That is awesome!
Let's find joy in the things our body CAN do, rather than berate it for something it can not. Shifting our focus to the wins, rather than the losses changes so much for a person! I'd even wager that if you celebrated reaching your shin in Triangle, you would put forth even more effort every time you are in that pose. Which of course means some day you'll be celebrating reaching your ankle or the floor.
So I ask you, what amazing things can your body do for you right now TODAY? Celebrate those things. You are indeed amazing.
