There are times our confidence gets a bit of a shake up and who can blame you in this fast paced world where information, opinions and facts are all flying at us at once from all sides! While I believe it takes time to build up your self confidence and a healthy dose of putting yourself out there, there are a few little tricks you can employ to feel confident at any moment. When I think of this first one, I'm always reminded of that episode of Grey's Anatomy when the neurosurgeon strikes a pose before a super intense surgery. I'm not saying you have to be brain surgeon for this one to work, but perhaps this idea could gift you some of that confidence in the face of your challenge. 1. Super Hero Pose! Yes! Visualize yourself as a super hero; you know the pose. Hands on the hips and feet a little wider than hip distance. Most importantly take your gaze and your chin a little higher to the sky. BREATHE here. Feel that confidence and power flowing through you. You can do ANYTHING; perhaps even save the world. I'd recommend taking a few breathes here but if you have the time prepping with Super Hero pose for just 2 minutes has been proven to alter your hormone levels. Let your super hero ego take center stage to really amp up that confidence. Give it a try for a week and see how you feel. Bonus points if you prep this way before a big meeting or performance. 2. Write out your wins! Got a little more time? Gift yourself a sense of accomplishment. You have done amazing things; big, small and everything in between. Grab a piece of paper or open up a word document and start listing out all the things you have accomplished. For example; Completed that big project at work College degree Led a sports team Washed AND put away all the laundry this week Cared and loved a pet etc. You can go into detail or just list out as many items as possible. You are an amazing individual and your accomplishments are important. Having that listing will remind you of all the things you have been through and succeeded in. Whatever challenge you are currently facing will one day be on that accomplishment list! 3. Wear a Power outfit!
When we look good, we feel good and I'm a firm believer that no matter where you're at in your body story you have a power outfit! If you want to embody some color theory, Red is a color of power and has been said to help you command the room (hint: great for meetings). Though, let your personal preferences guide you here. You just know when you feel good in an outfit. That feeling good will help you amp up the confidence to take on any challenge coming your way. If you gave any of these a try, let me know if they helped! Or perhaps you have your own tips to share with our Zenn Community?
